Anya Taylor-Joy to Star in Apple Series Adaptation of ‘Lucky’ From Reese Witherspoon, Jonathan Tropper
VARIETY – Anya Taylor-Joy is set to star in and executive produce the limited series “Lucky” at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.
The series is based on the Marissa Stapley novel of the same name. The book was a New York Times bestseller and a selection for Reese Witherspoon‘s Reese’s Book Club.
The official logline states that Taylor-Joy “stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”
Taylor-Joy executive produces under her Ladykiller Films banner. Apple Studios will produce.
“Reese’s Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections – to the stories, to the storytellers, and to the community we are building,” Witherspoon said. “It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen,” said Witherspoon. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series – based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel – to audiences around the world.”
“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie and Apple TV+ to bring ‘Lucky’ to life,” Taylor-Joy added.
The role brings Taylor-Joy back to the streaming TV world, as she earned widespread acclaim for her starring role in the Netflix limited series “The Queen’s Gambit.” She won a Golden Globe for her work on that show in addition to an Emmy nomination. She is primarily known for her film work, having starred in features like “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “The Menu,” “The Northman,” “Split,” and “The Witch.” She is also starring in the upcoming Apple Original Films project “The Gorge.”
She is repped by CAA, The Way Management, and Felker Toczek.
